Song Writing for Adults

with Martin Swinger

Calendar Mar 20, 2019 at 6:30 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Music inspires hope, unites hearts, changes moods, and challenges thinking. If you can carry a tune and play a little bit of guitar or piano, you’ll enjoy this opportunity to write your own song. We’ll review basic melodic choices, learn about song construction, discuss what makes a great lyric and talk about how particular songs have impacted our world. We’ll write a song as a group and then each person will unleash his/her creativity to write their own original work, with Martin’s assistance. Bring an idea for a song theme you would like to develop and a guitar, if you play. The ability to read music is not necessary for this class, just bring a notebook and your favorite pen!

Up Close and Personal with the Great Highland Bagpipe

with Vera Maheu

Calendar Mar 4, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week

We've all heard Amazing Grace, Auld Lang Syne and many other songs played on the bagpipes. Here's your chance to see how they work! Learn about the different parts of the bagpipes, how to tune them, and how they're different from other instruments. We'll talk about the pipe's history and traditions, find out about available classes and how you can participate in a pipe and drum band. If you're brave enough, you might just get a chance to play them. Are the pipes calling you?
