with Lee Pennington
Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

The New Mediterranean Diet
with Nancy Harmon Jenkins
The Mediterranean diet: It’s been hailed over and over by everyone from food writers to nutritional scientists as a great way for Americans to get a grip on better health for themselves and their families. It’s been shown by solid medical research to have a positive effect on chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer, it helps to control diabetes, it’s even been shown to slow the onset of Alzheimers and other age-related dementias. But what is it exactly? Join food writer Nancy Harmon Jenkins, author of The New Mediterranean Diet and a nationally recognized authority on the subject (and also on one of its prime components, extra-virgin olive oil), as she explains what the diet consists of and why it’s not a restrictive eat-this-not-that kind of diet, but rather an entirely new, easy and delicious way to bring good health into your kitchen and onto your table - and to have fun doing so. Nancy will have copies of The New Mediterranean Diet and also of her more recent Virgin Territory available for sale and signing.
