Gardening with Native Plants

So You Want to Open an Airbnb?

If you have entertained the idea of opening up your guest bedroom or summer camp for short term rental this is the class for you.  Debra has operated River Escape for over two years in Damariscotta as an active and popular Airbnb. She has also interviewed many other Airbnb or VRBO owners and put together a class full of good information, tips and stories of unusual events in the life of a short term landlord.  Included will be issues dealing with ordinance, insurance, expectations, fee, hosting, communication, neighbors and more.

Design Your Landscape

Do you want to make the most of your yard and garden? Then this field-based class is for you! Spring is an excellent time to assess your garden shrubs, trees and perennials and prepare the ground for planting. After the first meeting, classes will meet at each participant's property where an individualized, site-specific plan will be developed. Organic practices will be emphasized as well as the incorporation of native plants, especially those important for birds, bees, butterflies and other beneficials. The first night is for information and planning. Subsequent dates and times of meetings will be mutually arranged. A visit to the instructor’s nursery is included. A materials fee of $10.00 is payable to the instructor. Please notify adult education office of your physical address. Sharon Turner, at Crystal Lake Farm and Nursery in Washington, specializes in open-pollinated flower seedlings, native trees, shrubs, and perennials. She grows for Fedco Trees and teaches classes at MOFGA.

Come learn about the aspirational and financial impacts of savings for students of all ages, how savings is currently considered in the financial aid process, and the program highlights of Maine’s Section 529 plan, a tool many families use to prepare for higher education expenses.

Yoga for Back Care

Many of us experience chronic back discomfort due to aging, poor posture, inactivity or injury. Specialized yoga practices can help! Learn stretches that help lengthen the spine, gentle poses that help reduce muscle tension and nerve pain, safe poses that increase flexibility in the neck and shoulders, strengthening poses that improve posture and alignment, and relaxation exercises that relieve chronic pain. Each class will enable you to become more knowledgeable about ways to move your back in a healthy manner. Dress in loose clothes and bring a pillow and blanket along with a yoga mat.

Origami Gift Box

You’ll want to make more than one after this class because these are so much fun and perfect for smaller gifts and treats! You will receive a printed tutorial to take home with you. There is a $7.00 supply fee to be paid to instructor at class.

Understanding Medicare

The whole thing seems like a mystery with too few clues to solve. Robert Harvey, a Licensed Insurance Agent with HealthMarkets, can answer many of the questions you may have about Medicare, from the beginning of the process on. He will discuss: when you are eligible, what is the timeline for enrollment without penalties, what original Medicare covers and what it doesn’t, what additional plans work in conjunction with original Medicare, and your financial assistance options.
