Designing Your Landscape

Have you always wanted to develop a plan to make the most of your yard and garden? Then this field-based class is for you! After the first meeting, classes will meet at each participant’s property where individualized, site-specific options will be developed. Organic practices will be emphasized as well as the incorporation of native plants, especially those important for birds, bees, butterflies, and other beneficials. Dates and times of meetings after the first session will change subject to participant approval. Class will include a visit to Sharon’s nursery in Washington where she specializes in heirloom vegetables and flower seedlings, native perennials, shrubs and trees. Please make sure the adult education office has your correct physical address on file. The number of classes held will depend on how many students are in the class. A materials fee of $10.00 is payable to the instructor at the first class.

DIY Father's Day Gifts with Essential Oils

Come join us and make some unique and useful gifts for that special man in your life or even yourself! We will be making Father’s Day gifts with essential oils. These gifts will be appreciated as a thoughtful expression of your caring. You will have a choice: shampoo, conditioner, moisturizing cream, shaving cream, aftershave, beard oil and possibly more. Students will be able to make 1-4 items. A materials fee of $20 is due to instructor at the first class.

Dragonflies & Bees in Stained Glass

Choose a colorful dragonfly or bee to adorn your favorite houseplant. In this session your soldering experience will come in handy as you foil, solder and strengthen with wire, your fancy flier. You'll be using glass and beads (you'll select from my stock) in the production of your selected piece. You will learn to wire overlay when you assemble either piece. Your completed project will be wired to hang or stand in your favorite house plant. All supplies, materials and equipment needed are included in your cost - appr.$10.00 for each dragonfly and appr. $6.00 for each bee. Glass cutting and soldering experience is necessary to complete these projects. Deadline to register is April 23 and specify dragonfly or bee when registering.

As you grow older, you may worry about how you can remain independent, pay for the care you may need, and preserve your home and your savings. Alternatively, you may be responsible for an older relative who is starting to fail. In this course, you will find out how and where to find good care, how to cover the costs, and what opportunities there are to preserve your estate for you and your family’s benefit. Subjects will include: home care, nursing home and residential care, government programs such as Medicare and more.

Folk Art Rug Hooking

Like all old fashioned crafts, rug hooking is low-tech, simple and lots of fun! Learn the sequence and procedure of rug hooking, from start to finish. Every step will be demonstrated. Once you have mastered the basics, you can easily incorporate rovings, hand spun and commercial yarns, felting techniques and embellishments, We will discuss the history and tradition of primitive rug hooking, learn about finding and preparing materials, and research sources for design inspiration. You will choose from a variety of simple folk art designed rug hooking KITS, for a small mat or chair pad, purchased directly from the instructor. See available kits at Email to indicate the kit you prefer. Your rug hooking kit will include everything needed: hook, instructions, design suggestions, binding, burlap, hoop and a selection of one-of-a-kind heirloom and hand dyed wools ($41-$60, depending upon size). If you have a favorite pair of sharp fabric scissors, please bring these to class as well as a bag lunch if you wish.

French Braid Quilt

Create an absolutely stunning quilt for your bed. You will have the choice of making a 67" x 73" or 98" x 109" finished project. You will need to purchase the book "French Braid Quilts" by Jane Hardy Miller (ISBN 1-57120-326-5). A 10% discount will be given for the book and fabric if purchased at Mystic Maine Quilts. Your skill should be at an intermediate level to take this class. If you would like assistance in selecting the material, Barbara can be contacted at 522-9912. Functions, Settings, and Menus-It's Complicated!

Today's digital cameras have a variety of features. Are you getting the most out of your investment? Are you happy with the results? Let a professional help you figure it all out! You'll be surprised by how much sharper and more interesting your photos are when you learn how to use your digital tools. We'll discuss image size and quality, shooting options, and menu choices that will make a difference in the sharpness of your photos. A Saturday morning "shooting" class is included (4/20), giving everyone a chance for hands-on practice. Leave this course with a solid understanding of your camera and the confidence to start making it work for you. Please bring your camera with you. A manually adjustable camera will work best for the purpose of the class.

Come on over to SpinOff Studio and learn about printing with plants! We will work with different papers and fabrics to create works of art. Plants of all shapes and sizes are available, but you can bring your favorites along as well! A materials fee of $15 is due to the instructor at the first class.
